Writing goals
At my writers' group last night, one person suggested we should come to the December meeting ready to talk about our writing goals for 2008. So I started thinking about what mine are. A couple of years ago, I had the goal to learn more about poetry and I did, and that's the kind of goal I'm thinking about right now. Yes, I have marketing and publishing-business-type goals too, but what always keeps my feet on the ground is the writing itself.
I think I want to concentrate especially on certain aspects of novel writing: plots, subplots, theme, pacing. Knowing when a subject is big enough for a novel, and finding different ways to get from A to Z. Now, the muse may turn out to have other plans for me, but this seems to be where I'm leaning right now.
And I continue to work on two ongoing goals: to keep mining the deep and honest stuff, and to include significant details in my description.
